Machine Guards

Plastic Machine Guards

Our staff have decades of experience in manufacturing machine guards made from Acrylic ( Perspex ), Lexan Polycarbonate and other plastic materials.

We can fabricate these from broken samples or engineering drawings.

If there is a need to have a guard made urgently due to production losses, we always endeavor to manufacture with the minimum of delay.

Advantages of using a particular Plastic:

Acrylic ( Perspex ) and ( Plexiglass ) is an excellent material for machine guarding. Extremely clear, lightweight and Rigid, easy to fabricate and keep clean. Approximately 17 to 20 times the impact resistance of normal glass.

Very good chemical and UV resistance.

Polycarbonate ( Lexan ) has an impact resistance approximately 250 times that of normal glass. Suitable for applications where resistance to high impact is required.

Polycarbonate is self extinguishing, lightweight, safe to cut and drill. Not as rigid or chemical resistant as Acrylic, also much easier to scratch and mark. However, it is available (albeit expensive ) with an Abrasion and UV resistant coating making it the ultimate safety glazing material.

Clear PVC is a material that is mainly used when the Machine guard or Cover is exposed to very strong chemicals or fumes. Not often used, but will easily outlast other clear plastic materials in this situation. Can be molded to shape and welded if necessary. Limited to applications below 60*C.

PETG is a thermoplastic polyester material that has excellent chemical resistance at room temperature, high impact resistance and exceptional clarity.

Easy to cut and fabricate, thermoform and heat bend. Great for Safety guards and face shields. Very difficult to glue due to its excellent chemical resistance.

Generally not suitable for outdoor applications due to its limited UV resistance.
